BIO

Yvette Kissi (b.1991) is a London based visual artist and textile designer. She graduated from Winchester School of Art with a BA in Fashion & Textile Design: Print Textiles (2013).

The multifaceted nature of Yvette Kissi’s practice allows her work to cross the boundaries of fine art and textiles.
Her work has been featured in group exhibitions including ‘SPRING’ a multidisciplinary show at Hampstead School of Art (April-May 2019) an institution with artist patrons such as Frank Bowling. She has been invited to be a featured artist in In Her Studio, a California based publication dedicated to sharing the spaces and stories of creatives and she has presented a programme of rich cultural events and talks as part of London Craft Week (October 2021).

At the core of her practice is an intrigue and love for colour and the language and cultural connotations associated with it. Her passion for the material behaviours that occur during her free flowing, intuitive painting process which is inspired by cultural and creative heritage, directly transform into the detail, elegance and complexity present in her luxury textile designs.

Converting abstract paintings with informed colour combinations and stories into luxury scarves & textiles not only elevates their elegance, and complexity but give each painting another form with which they can exist, be draped, shaped, and reshaped, introducing fluidity and movement whether on the body or hung in interior spaces.
This carefully developed language of colour, painting and textiles highlights the transformation when a piece transitions from one state to the other, allowing storytelling to transcend mediums.
